Ice Resurfacers

Success Story
- City of Mississauga

Special thanks to the City of Mississauga's Chris Tyrrell, Facility
Services Manager and Ed Harris, Arena Manager

"We were impressed with the FuelMaker System and FuelMaker staff. They addressed all of our needs and project specifications. Improved indoor air quality, a safer workplace and cleaner, healthier air for the public and staff, all in one proven package with natural gas and the FuelMaker on-site refueling system."

The City of Mississauga made the decision to convert all of their ice resurfacers at their 22 rinks to natural gas for a number of reasons. "Primarily we wanted to improve the indoor air quality in our facilities, but also create a safer work environment for our operations people", said Chris Tyrrell, the City's Facility Services Manager.

Some of the benefits we have received by converting to natural gas and the FuelMaker system are:

  • improved indoor air quality for both the public and the operations staff;
  • a safer workplace - no more handling of heavy propane cylinders
  • efficiency in operations - only one utility cost budget required
  • long-term cost savings
  • convenience

"It was the most cost effective solution in comparison to electric and the great thing is that there was no special training required for our employees. Any minor training involved was done on an individual basis by FuelMaker."

''I have been working on this for four (4) years now, trying to get this system implemented'', said Ed Harris, Arena Manager. "It's great that it is finally complete. The staff and spectators have both commented on the improved air quality, noting that they don't smell fumes anymore".

Mayor Hazel McCallion honoured Chris Tyrrell, Ed Harris and the rest of the project team at the City's annual Cafe Awards where the team won an award for their initiative and efforts on converting all of their ice resurfacers from propane to natural gas.

Our Customers say...

"When I show visitors how we can resurface two rinks with our one indoor FuelMaker and clean natural gas, they can't believe everyone doesn't do it that way." - Tobias Kaye, President
Ice World, Abingdon, MD

"After working in rinks with both propane and gas resurfacers, the FuelMaker system is the only way to go. The FuelMaker plugs into the machines very easily, and there is no changing of tanks which can be a safety issue. The biggest advantage we have is that we can plug the resurfacers in throughout the day when we have our large tournaments. Over all, we have been very pleased with our FuelMakers." - Eric Sutherland, Assistant Manager
Schwan's Super Rink, Blaine, MN

"Very simple, just plug in overnight. Couldn't live without it." - Monty Mainz, Operations Manager
Canlan Sports, Wichita, KS

"You can't do ice without resurfacers, and as far as I'm concerned, you can't do a resurfacer without natural gas." - Kevin Smith, Operations Manager
The Michigan National Ice Centres, Grand Rapids, MI.
